Every new EV comes with an advertised WLTP range — a standardized lab test used across the European Union. The problem is that few drivers actually achieve that figure in daily use.
What WLTP actually measures
WLTP (Worldwide Harmonized Light Vehicles Test Procedure) is a standardized test cycle run under controlled conditions — a set temperature, speed profile, and without active heating or AC at full power. The standard's goal is comparability between models, not a forecast of real-world consumption under any conditions.
Main factors that reduce real range
Highway speed. Air resistance grows exponentially with speed — driving above 120 km/h can easily cut range by 25-30% compared to city driving.
Ambient temperature. Cold weather increases consumption due to cabin heating and lower battery efficiency at low temperatures — a real-world drop of 20 to 40% in winter isn't unusual.
